“It’s something that you don’t see very often in American media, where Asian characters are sexy; and when they’re sexy, they’re a fetish of sort,” said Nguyen
This is so true. I love that he realizes this and is now portraying AMAF sexually. The only other Asian entertainer I know that does this is Frank Yang. While Frank can be pretty weird and does all sorts of crazy things, he does add a lot of sex in some of his videos and I remembered he once said the same thing as Nguyen, that there’s not enough sex in Asian movies, music, books, etc…so he tries to add as much “ass and sex” in his Youtube videos as much as he can.
Other than that, that’s great that he made a play about life in Vietnamese refugee camps. A lot of us Vietnamese-Americans descended from parents who were refugees coming from those camps (myself included) so the play would definitely be relatable to a lot of our families.
That’s awesome to hear that so many of them, even the ones who are western born and raised, are returning to their ancestral country to contribute to its economy and standards of living. Even more impressive is how some may even see it as a new home (i.e. the woman who planned to have her baby in Vietnam). That is going over and beyond simply embracing ones roots/heritage and I applaud that.
This started in Westminster? Not surprised. I’ve been there and there’s a HUGE Vietnamese-American population, I believe the biggest in the entire country. What I am surprised about is that there’s an actual bank dedicated to specifically Vietnamese-Americans. I didn’t know we were big enough of a population for a bank to be started just for us But that’s cool to know that there is.
Another thing I’m surprised about is how the CEO of the bank is Chinese-American even though his bank is mainly for Vietnamese-Americans Not that it matters (at least he’s Asian) but I’m wondering if the reason why he didn’t start a bank for his own ethnicity instead is because there are already a lot of banks dedicated to Chinese-Americans so he wanted to find an opportunity with less competition?
